YORKSHIRE MASTERS

Welcome to the "Masters" page of the Yorkshire Badminton Association website. Players are eligible to play for Yorkshire Masters Squads as soon as they reach the age of 40. All players must be affiliated to Badminton England and hold a COMPETE license in order to play in the masters league. If you are not affiliated but would like to play for Yorkshire, then see the notes on how to affiliate at the bottom of this page. Yorkshire currently has 7 squads ranging from 40+ to 70+ in 5 year groupings. The 40+ to 60+ squads consist of 4 women, 4 men who play 4 men's doubles, 4 women's doubles and 4 mixed doubles per match. The 65+ and 70+ squads plays 3 men's doubles, 3 women's doubles and 3 mixed per match. They play a home and an away fixture which can be as many as 8 matches per season depending on how many counties are entered into a particular age group. Matches are predominantly played on Sundays to avoid clashes with local league matches. Anyone wishing to be considered for a place in the squad should join one of the practise/assessment sessions which are held twice per year. One in September/October and one at the turn of the year. The squad captain will be on hand where possible to welcome new members. Practise session notifications will appear on this page 4 to 6 weeks before the practise date.

Yorkshire is part of the northern counties league which includes around 6 other counties. The county that wins the league in their age group goes through to the league finals in April each year. Yorkshire Masters usually do quite well and usually have one or more teams in the finals.

Some counties including Yorkshire host their own Masters Tournament and once again all affiliated players are eligible to enter. See BE website for more details. Badminton England host a further 3 Masters only events in December, January and April. These are the "Nationals", the "Masters All England" and the "County Challenge". Once again see the BE website for more details. Over the years many Yorkshire players have gone on to represent England internationally, winning Gold Silver and Bronze medals, in the "European" and "World" events.

BADMINTON ENGLAND AFFILIATION

If you are not a member of an affiliated club but wish to become affiliated through Yorkshire Badminton to Badminton England, then join "The Tykes Badminton Club." This is a "virtual" club set up to allow anyone to become affiliated even if your club isn't, and its cheaper than affiliating as an individual member. Any player who wishes to represent Yorkshire or play in a recognised Badminton England sponsored masters tournament must be affiliated. For more information on how to affiliate yourself contact the Yorkshire Registration Secretary Nick Rogers at nicholas.rogers3@ntlworld.com. From the 2018-19 season onward players wishing to represent the county will also need to have a "COMPETE" license as well as BE affiliation..
We will need your old affiliation number if you have been affiliated previously, your DOB, email address full name, postal address, and mobile and/or home telephone number.
