YORKSHIRE JUNIORS
INTRODUCTION
Yorkshire Badminton Association Junior Section exists to promote and provide badminton opportunities for players of school age. Organisation of the Association’s activities is by a committed group of volunteer teachers, parents, former parents, friends and coaches.
Representative county teams at U12, U14, U16 and U18 play nationally in the Shires League. There are also inter-county competitions run by the North Midway Badminton League at Primary school, U13, U15 and U17 age groups. YBA also operates a Bonanza tournament for non-county squad players and open tournaments sanctioned by Badminton England where individuals compete from around the country.
Weekend tournaments organised by the Anglo Scottish League take place at U13, U15, U17 and U20 age groups and provide excellent opportunities to develop team spirit on and off court too.
Halls are booked by the Association in schools, colleges, clubs and public sports and leisure centres.
The Association believes it has a responsibility to provide an all-round programme for the whole child not just as a badminton player and recognises the value that sport can bring to a child’s development. Overall the emphasis is on enjoyment which does not necessarily come from winning.
Badminton England operates several Age Group Tournaments at U11, U13, U15 and U17 and additionally run intermediate tournaments at U12, U14, U16 and U18. To participate in age restricted competitions the player must be under the specific age on December 31st of the latter year of the season i.e. for 2017/2018 season U18 players are born in 2001 or later.
YBA also operate and participate in the Bonanza, Inter-Area and Primary tournaments where the qualifying age is based on school years.
AGE GROUPS
Badminton England operate several Age Group Tournaments. Yorkshire Badminton Association participate at all
these age groups and additionally run intermediate tournaments at U12, U14, U16 and U18.
Normally, to participate in the age restricted competitions the player must be under the specific age at 1st January of that year.
In addition to the Age Group Tournaments run under Badminton England rules, YBA also operate and participate in other Inter-Area and Primary tournaments, where the qualifying age is based upon school years.

COUNTY AND YORKSHIRE AFFILIATION
Juniors should be affiliated to Badminton England and Yorkshire. In addition juniors wishing to play in ICT for Yorkshire or in a BE Circuit Tournament will need to purchase a Compete Licence.
